As its name indicates, a key Center for the Book objective is to raise public awareness of the importance of books in our culture—past, present, and future—and strengthen the relationship of books to audiences and potential audiences of all ages.

Highlights in this section include publications from symposia on “Television, the Book and the Classroom” (1978), the history of the Armed Services Editions (1984), and the Book in the Islamic World (1995); three items related to the Center for the Book’s congressional authorized “Books in Our Future” project (1983-1984); and the online “The Exquisite Corpse Adventure: A Progressive Story Game Played by 20 Celebrated Authors and Illustrators” (2011).
